How does a standard day of awesomeness work?

We visit your school with 2 members of our team and one of our mobile hospitals. You then have 3 choices on how the day runs.

  1. Careers in Health - A workshop on repeat in line with your timetable over the day to a different group each time (50-70min each) *Most popular choice*
  2. Mini Medics - Two to three repeats of a longer workshop to a different group each time (90min to 3 hours each)
  3. A combo of 1 & 2 EG: Half day in the morning and 2 x 1 hour workshops in the afternoon

What are the key messages and themes?

Firstly, our workshops are different to normal lessons. Your students will experience something new, getting hands on & practical with real medical kit in the classroom which helps demonstrate links between school, lessons and life.

With any workshop choice we always include careers guidance, showcasing the amazing careers in the NHS that students don’t know about and are accessible with levels 9-4 at GCSE.

Ultimately we want to give your students the right careers information so they can develop realistic career ambitions, know what is required to achieve those goals which helps them stay motivated in your classroom.

What activities will the students be able to try?

This is where the fun starts…

  • There’s an ultrasound machine to check if they’re still growing taller (guaranteed to disappoint a few students!)
  • A fake arm to take blood out of with a real needle
  • Try their hand at key hole surgery
  • Record their own ECG
  • Take a photo of their retina on an in iPhone
  • See their veins underneath their own skin with a vein scanner
  • Hear their own pulse with a pulse Doppler
  • And much more…

With the longer Mini Medics workshops, students can try all of the above an more advanced tests including:

  • Measuring blood vessel dimensions with the ultrasound
  • See their own red blood cells whizzing around capillaries in the nail cuticle
  • Suture fake skin
  • Try additional neurological and sensory activities.

What year groups are the workshops suitable for?

We can see pretty much any year group in secondary schools. We’ll tailor the workshop activities to different age groups and abilities. We’ve got so many activities up our sleeves!

They’re really good for year 9 GCSE choices or STEM / Career Enrichment days.

We’re happy to see primary school students too and run special versions of the workshops for years 4 to 6 at certain points in the year.

How much is a day?

The killer question!

There are several variables in here such as time of year, distances travelled and the number of students seen, but we have options from £1,095 + VAT to £1,595 + VAT.

We don’t add on any extras either such as mileage or accommodation. Whatever price we quote, it is an all in one price.
